Having not touched modeling for quite awhile, my hands are now itching to do some scale modeling! However, my living arrangement the way that it is, I don't really have a chance to really consider starting the hobby again. Hopefully the situation will change in a month or two. In the meantime however, I've tried keeping my purchases to a minimum. It's not easy.

I just can't resist some stuff... like the Kotobukiya HMM Shield Liger! This is Kotobukiyas new 'Highend Master Model' series based on the Zoids franchise. Unlike the original Tomy toy, this one is not mechanized. To compensate for that, it's highly poseable. It's made up of 400 (!) parts. So in a sense, it's more model than mechanical toy. How to resist man?

The next one is something I missed out the first time it was released. Starship Modeler managed to get a hold of a few new copies and needless to say, GOTTA BUY! It's the Macross Atomospheric Booster that appeared all of 5 seconds in the Macross TV series. Scupted by the very talented John Moscato, this thing weighs 3 lbs! I think only diehard Macross fans (like me) will know what this is but damn, it just looks so impressive!

In upcoming kit news, these are the two I'm most looking forward to:

My favorite vehicle from Star Wars is finally getting the proper plastic treatment from Fine Molds. The Y-Wing fighter! I've always liked the utilitarian look of the Y-Wing versus the sports-car look of the X-Wing. Damn. It's going to be hard not to get this one when it comes out in the next few months. Just look at the details (courtesy of Starship Modeler)! Droool...

And the third (the second was a recolor of Shield Liger) in the Kotobukiya HMM Zoids line is the Command Wolf! This being one of my favorite Zoids design is also a must get for me. Picture courtesy of ZoidsPoison. Man... so many things to buy, so little time to build...

Been awhile since I perused the news on upcoming kits and look what I found! Coming up in the next few months is the HGUC RX-79G Gundam and a 1/20 Scopedog.

With regards to the RX-79G, I'm excited because this means an RGM-79G looks to be a guaranteed release since the only difference is the head unit. However, the question of what I'm going to do with the original NG release (which I haven't built) has popped up. Sigh...

As for the Scopedog, I don't really like the anime series but for some strange reason, I've always liked the Armored Troopers themselves. It's strange because I'm pretty ambivalent about Kunio Okawara's mecha designs in general. 1/20 is a huge and odd scale though since there's not many kits out there in the scale. I think something like 1/35 would have been better although that would have made the Scopedog pretty small. It's not cheap too... 4,200 yen!
